Important Note: For customers who have commissioned PIAQ for certification or wish to do so, it is not possible to provide the "Internal Audit" service.

What is an Internal Audit?

An internal audit, also known as a first-party audit, is an internal assessment of company processes and systems conducted in accordance with a standard. The goal is to review and improve management systems, such as in the areas of quality management, environmental management, or occupational safety.

Unlike a certification audit, the company itself initiates and conducts this internal audit. The audit must be carried out by qualified internal auditors of the company or with the help of external auditors, such as PIAQ experts. We offer professional support and share our expertise to optimize the audit process. The result of such an internal audit is a detailed and informative audit report that provides valuable insights and improvement suggestions.

Process of an Internal Audit with PIAQ

  1. Objective Setting and Audit Planning: At the beginning of the process, we jointly define the objectives and scope of the internal audit. In this phase, we determine which areas of the company should be audited within a specific timeframe.
  2. Conducting the Audit: The execution of the internal audit includes a detailed analysis of business processes, conducting interviews with employees, and reviewing relevant company resources, including process descriptions and management documents. Any deviations from the standard requirements are recorded and discussed in the closing meeting.
  3. Preparation of the Audit Report: After the audit, we prepare a detailed audit report. This report can then be submitted to your certifier.

Why is the Internal Audit Important for Certification?

For companies aiming for certification, conducting internal audits is mandatory. If you want to have your company certified, you must provide annual proof to the certifier that internal audits are being conducted. The report of these audits serves as evidence that your company regularly and comprehensively audits all relevant processes.

  • Your department responsible for internal audits is understaffed due to illness or employee turnover.
  • Your employees or internal auditors are not qualified for internal audits or lack the necessary certifications as internal auditors.
  • You do not want to take any risks and want to prepare as best as possible for certification. For this reason, you provide your internal auditors with the additional support of our PIAQ auditors.
